Barley Distillers Dark Grains

Item number: Barley Distillers Dark Grains

Barley Distillers Dark Grains is a by-product of alcohol distilling (malt whisky production) obtained by drying solid residues of fermented grain to which certain solubles (pot ale syrup or evaporated spent wash) have been added. Barley Distillers Dark Grains are a palatable alternative to expensive concentrates supplying good levels of protein and energy to balance low energy and protein forages. Good complement to high starch cereals and low protein feeds. High oil content. Good availability all year. High copper content so not suitable for Sheep. Reasonable pellet quality.

Nutritional Attributes

Barley Distillers Dark Grains have the following benefits: A palatable energy and protein feed with good levels of digestible fibre. Good source of bypass undegradable protein due to heat during the manufacturing process, although low in starch and sugar due to extraction. Barley Distillers may contain high levels of copper from equipment used during the brewing process making them unsuitable to feed to sheep.

Storage and Handling

Barley Distillers Dark Grains as with all other dried feeds should be stored in cool, dry conditions. Due to the high oil content the product should not be stored for long periods and should be used within 2 months. Care should be taken when handling to avoid damage to pellets. Produced at distilleries throughout Scotland and available all year round, although some plant shutdowns may limit availability. Will have been stored in compliance with MAFF Code of Practice for the Control of Salmonella.
